development services and to help them in their search for
appropriate positions and career advancement.
About GPS and UKEAS – An Introduction
UKEAS (the United Kingdom Education Advisory Service) are a world-leader in
the counselling of post-graduate students for placement in UK universities.
Founded in Taiwan in 1993, UKEAS now have 14 offices in Taiwan, Mainland
China and Vietnam. In Taiwan more than 60% of all post-graduate students
studying at UK institutions take advice from UKEAS. GPS Career Connections
has been formed as the overwhelming majority of our Taiwan students have
asked us to provide continuing services after they graduate to help them
with their career development.
GPS Career Connections comprises a set of services that will help job seekers
to prepare for career development from initial job interviews, while you advance
up the career ladder and all the way through to executive placement at the
highest levels of international businesses. It has always been our aim at UKEAS
to provide our customers with the best possible service and support while they
are applying to study and to offer any support needed while they are in the
UK. We are therefore thrilled that we can now extend those services upon your
return and into the future as you embark upon your life’s work.
 Over the past 16 years in Taiwan we have developed an extensive
network of business contacts both in the local and overseas business communities.
Our active presence in the British Chamber of Commerce in Taipei (BCCT) and
the American Chamber of Commerce (Amcham Taichung) have brought us into contact
with many of the expatriates who are the business leaders of Taiwan’s overseas
community and also of many of the main multinational corporations in Taiwan.
Our participation and leadership in charitable events have further strengthened
these relationships and help us expand our presence amongst the Taiwan business
community, with particularly good ties with Rotary Taiwan. As part of the research
we have done for our new set of services we have consulted many of the leaders
of the Taiwan business community regarding job placements for our alumni and
have found a strong interest from all those we have spoken to. To compliment
our consultations we conducted a survey of more than 300 business organisations
in Taiwan to get a better understanding of their human resource needs.
We have not limited our research to our Taiwan business contacts
and experience. We have utilized our vast database of contacts throughout UK
education to gather and collate information, which will add to our portfolio
of services for job seekers. In addition to this, our presence as a regional
entity rather than being restricted to Taiwan also gives us extra leverage
as we develop our placements services. From this strong foundation then, we
have developed “GPS Career Connections”, which we hope will be a great asset
to our alumni when they graduate and will give them an edge in a jobs market
that continues to become more and more competitive.
